Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

Previous editions: Hazenbos 2003: 156-59

The geographical setting of the inventory seems to include, or be in the nearby of, the town Tuḫupiya, perhaps south of Ḫattuša (Cammarosano and Marizza 2015: 169-70 with literature).

Palaeography and orthography: Late UN (rev. 3′); peculiar variant of NA (e.g. rev. 1′, 6′; cf. HZL no. 15/13). Note the spelling of Labarna with the sign PA (rev. 10′).

obv. 16′: For the interpretation of this line see Beal 2005/06: 362: “but [the men of the tem]ples built them.”

obv. 7′: Cf. rev. 10′.

obv. 8′: Whether the subordinate king is that of Tumanna as proposed by Hazenbos is very uncertain (see Cammarosano and Marizza 2015: 169-70).

obv. 10′: Reading after Wilhelm 1997: 21.

obv. 12′: The reading of QA as determinative was suggested by F. Wiggermann (apud Hazenbos 2003: 157 with fn. 185).

obv. 13′: On the uncertain interpretation of this line see Wilhelm 1997: 21 and Hazenbos 2003: 157.

rev. 12′: The PN is a hapax. Given the spacing between the signs IR and PA, the reading is uncertain.
